About Loretto Fire & EMS:
Loretto Fire & EMS proudly protects 2500 people living in an
area of 15 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that
protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a
public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
Loretto Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services was
established in 1975 as the 15th fire department in Cullman
County. Since then Cullman County has added 11 more fire
departments for a grand total of 26 predominantly volunteer
county fire departments with over 60 stations and 1 completely
paid department in the city of Cullman with two stations.
Currently the county and city fire departments serve a
population of over 75,000 persons. Loretto Fire Department
serves a rural residential area of over 2500 residents in
approximately 15 square miles. We are dispatched by a 9-1-1
system with the central office in Cullman City. The 9-1-1
office dispatches us via radio and alert pagers on the 158.745
frequency. Loretto Fire Department has two stations with a bay
capacity of 6 truck bays. Station 1 was constructed in 1994
and has the capacity to house at least 4 apparatus, crew
quarters for 6 firefighters, a Chief’s office, 2 restrooms
with showers, a crew area (dayroom or living room), and
kitchen on the ground level. On the second level there are
classroom facilities, a command center, and a supply room for
fire and EMS supplies. Station 2 was built in 1974 and served
the community as the primary station prior to the completion
of the new station. Currently it houses a reserve pumper and
has a spare bay that will be utilized in the future for
additional apparatus. We serve our community as an ACLS fire
department providing advanced life support through several
paramedics and EMTs on staff. We have the capacity to
transport victims with life threatening injuries during a
major incident if it is absolutely necessary. We do not
transport patients normally. The apparatus that call our
stations home include: Engine 48 a 1980 PemFab/E-one 1250 GPM/1250
gallon Tank pumper Engine 1 a 1974 Hahn 750 gpm/750 gallon
