| DESCRIPTION OF
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Conducts a careful examination of the patient for
signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assists other
medical personnel as necessary.
B. Provides prompt and efficient care of the patient and
stabilization of condition prior to transport.
C. Provides careful handling of the patient in moving him
to the ambulance vehicle.
D. Provides safe and efficient transport of the patient
while constantly monitoring the patient and providing any
appropriate continuing care within the limits of license and
certification.
E. Provides orderly transfer of the patient to
destination.
F. Upon arrival at destination with patient, responsible
for cleaning, restocking supplies and placing the unit back
in service as soon as possible.
G. When necessary, in the absence of other qualified
rescuers and within limits of training, use procedures to
gain access to and disentangle patients who require
extrication.
H. In the absence of other qualified personnel, controls
the emergency scene, including parking the vehicle in such a
way as to minimize further danger in the roadway as well as
controlling the actions of bystanders.
I. Obtains information regarding the emergency from
dispatch, communicates other emergency services as needed
during the call. In the absence of, or as directed by more
qualified personnel, communicates with receiving hospitals
regarding patient status. Must follow FCC with regard to
communications by radio.
J. Obtains and records information for the Company as
well as those required by medical, legal, and health
authorities. When assigned to an EMT-P crewmember, the
EMT-B is generally responsible for accurate completion of
the billing report.
K. Will make daily checks of the vehicle equipment and
systems, and completes manifest and other reports/forms as
required.
L. Reports needed equipment and vehicle repairs to Field
Supervisor and Maintenance Personnel.
M. Responsible for precepting new employees and
students/observers as directed.
N. Protects the public by not delegating to persons less
qualified, any service which requires the professional
competence of an EMT.
O. Refuses to participate in unethical procedures, and
assumes the responsibility to expose incompetence or
unethical conduct of others to the appropriate authority in
a proper and professional manner.
P. Attends mandatory ALS review meetings and other
meetings as scheduled.
Q. Performs other duties as required by superiors.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A. Must meet the Core Job Functions and Job Qualification
Standards for Field Operations Personnel as described in the
Standard Operating Procedure manual.
B. Must be able to fulfill all duties and requirements of
EMT-Basic job description.
C. Unless otherwise specified, the guidelines for
clinical competency for EMT-Intermediate shall be as
published in the current EMT-Intermediate text by Brady
American Heart Association guidelines shall supersede.
D. Must be currently State and Nationally registered as
EMT-I.
E. Must possess a current driver’s license in the State
where the Business Unit is located except where exempt by
State regulation.
F. Currently licensed as EMS-Driver with DEMS.
G. Current adult and child CPR certification from AHA.
H. Full-time employees must be available for recall in
times of crisis.
I. Must have an acceptable driving record as determined
by the Company and outlined in the Standard Operating
Procedure manual.
J. In States where required, must possess a current Class
D driver’s license.
K. Must be at least 18 years old.
